What we design

The structural side of your project, sorted

Whether it is a new home or an extension, we produce the structural design and documentation your project needs to get a permit and get built.

Structural scope Drawings & computations Regulation 126A certificate

Structural drawings & computations

Clear structural drawings and supporting computations for your build, issued in PDF and DWG format, ready for permit and construction.

Footing & slab design

Footing and slab design suited to your site and soil, including reactive clay sites common across Melbourne.

Steel, beam, lintel & bracing design

Beam, lintel, steel member and bracing design for openings, spans and load paths, including removing walls in renovations and resisting wind and racking loads.

Retaining wall design

Retaining wall design for sloping sites, landscaping and split levels, engineered for the conditions on your block.

How it works

Simple, from first call to issued documents

01

Tell us about the project

Send through your DWG plans and soil test, or just a description. We review what is needed and send a clear fee proposal and scope. No soil test? We can organise one.

02

We design the structure

We carry out the structural design and computations, and prepare the drawings your builder and council need.

03

You get permit-ready documents

You receive clear structural documentation in PDF and DWG format, with a Regulation 126A certificate of compliance, all reviewed by a Chartered Professional Engineer and ready to build from.

What we need to start

Two things get us going

To design the structure, we need to understand the building and the ground it sits on. That means two things to begin:

1. Architectural drawings (PDF and DWG)

We work from your architectural or draft plans, provided in both PDF and DWG format. If you are working with an architect or building designer, they will usually have these.

2. A soil test

A soil test tells us about the ground conditions on your site, which is essential for footing and slab design. Melbourne sites are often reactive clay, so this matters.

No soil test yet? We can organise it.

If you do not have a soil test, we can arrange one for your site as part of the scope, so you have one less thing to chase up.

Do not have DWG plans? Send through whatever you have and we will let you know what is needed to proceed.

Common questions

Building or renovating questions

What do you need from me to start?

To begin we need your architectural or draft plans in DWG format and a soil test for the site. If you do not have a soil test, we can organise one for you as part of the scope.

Do I need a structural engineer for my renovation?

If your project changes the structure, such as removing a wall, adding a second storey, or building an extension, you will usually need structural design and documentation. Send us your plans and we will tell you what is needed.

Can you work from my draftsperson's or architect's plans?

Yes. We regularly work alongside building designers and architects, taking their plans and producing the structural design and documentation to suit.

How much does it cost?

Every project is different, so we provide a fee proposal on request. Tell us about your project and we will send a clear proposal and scope with no obligation.

Do you design for reactive clay and tricky sites?

Yes. Footing and slab design for reactive clay and sloping sites is common across Melbourne, and we design to suit the conditions on your specific block.

Is the work checked by a senior engineer?

Every set of documents is reviewed by a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng, Engineers Australia) before it is issued.
